Halaxy ships changes every month, and most practices only notice them when something looks different on a Monday morning. The July and June 2026 releases are worth a closer look, because several of them change how clinical notes, invoices and payment reports work, and one of them (the AI Practice Assistant) changes how staff find information in the first place.
Here is what was released, what it means in practice, and where the new features stop and a custom integration starts. We have been connecting Halaxy to Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks and Power BI for Australian clinics for more than five years, so this is written from the point of view of the reports and data flows practices actually rely on.
The July 2026 Halaxy updates at a glance
| Feature | What it does | Who benefits most |
|---|---|---|
| Summary Notes in the clinical sidebar | Generates a patient history overview from published clinical notes and shows it next to the consultation | Practitioners with long-term or complex patients |
| Fee notes on invoices | Lets you add an explanatory note under individual invoice line items | Front desk and practice managers handling fee queries |
| Referral details in the Patient Claim report | Shows the associated referral information inside the claim report | Anyone reconciling Medicare or referral-based claims |
| Enhanced Auto Payments report | Adds filters and notifications, plus an option to hide patient names when sharing externally | Practices that send reports to a bookkeeper or accountant |
| AI Practice Assistant (beta) | A sidebar assistant that answers practice management questions in plain language | New staff and busy reception teams |
Summary Notes: less scrolling, but check what is published
Summary Notes pulls from published clinical notes. If your practitioners leave notes in draft, the summary will not reflect them. Before relying on it, agree a simple rule for when notes are finalised, and spot-check a few summaries against the underlying notes for patients you know well. As with any AI-assisted summary, it supports clinical judgement rather than replacing it.
Fee notes: fewer “why was I charged this?” calls
Fee notes are a small change with a real effect on reception workload. A short line such as “extended consult, 60 minutes” or “report writing, NDIS” answers most billing questions before they reach the phone. Two tips:
- Create a short standard list of fee note wording so every practitioner explains the same thing the same way.
- Check how the notes appear in anything you export or sync, such as your accounting system. If a downstream system ignores them, keep the important detail in the line item description too.
Better reports for your bookkeeper
The Auto Payments report now has filtering, notifications and the option to hide patient names. That last option matters for privacy: your bookkeeper usually needs amounts, dates and payment status, not who the patient was. If you currently email reports or spreadsheets with patient names to external parties, this is a good moment to stop.
The referral details added to the Patient Claim report also remove a common cross-check. Previously, staff often had to open referral records separately to confirm a claim was valid.
Still re-keying Halaxy data into another system?
Native reports are improving, but most clinics still export, clean and re-enter data somewhere. We will look at your workflow and tell you honestly whether a connection would pay for itself.
The AI Practice Assistant (beta)
Halaxy describes the AI Practice Assistant as a conversational tool that answers practice management questions, such as scheduling or invoice status, in plain language. In July 2026 it was in limited beta, with Halaxy saying it would roll out gradually at no additional cost.
It sits alongside the AI features Halaxy released earlier in the year, including AI-Suggested Actions (June 2026), which prefills patient records from incoming faxes, messages and uploads, plus the existing AI Scribe and AI File Summary.
A few sensible ground rules before your team leans on any of these:
- Write down who can use which AI feature. A one-page policy is enough for most clinics.
- Keep a human check on anything that changes a patient record. Prefilled data is a suggestion until someone confirms it.
- Update your privacy policy. From 10 December 2026, organisations covered by the Privacy Act must explain in their privacy policy when computer programs are used to make, or substantially help make, decisions that significantly affect individuals.
Also new in June: Assignment of Benefit automation
Halaxy’s June release added automated consent links for Assignment of Benefit, so practices can send requests by SMS or email and process rebates automatically. Halaxy notes a 12-month transition period that ends in July 2027. If your practice bulk bills or uses patient claiming, schedule time well before then to test the new flow end to end.
Where native features stop
None of these updates change the fundamentals of what Halaxy shares with other systems. Its documented accounting syncs are with Xero, QuickBooks and Reckon One. Practices that run MYOB, want a multi-clinic view, or need practitioner splits, refunds and NDIS items reconciled automatically, still tend to need a custom connection or a reporting layer such as Power BI. Our guide to the Halaxy Xero integration covers exactly where the built-in sync stops.
A 30-minute checklist for this month
- Turn on Summary Notes for one practitioner and review ten summaries.
- Agree standard fee note wording and add it to your front desk guide.
- Switch on “hide patient names” for any report you share externally.
- Decide whether to join the AI Practice Assistant beta, and write your AI usage rules first.
- Diary a test of the Assignment of Benefit flow before mid-2027.
FAQ
Do the new AI features cost extra?
Halaxy said the AI Practice Assistant would launch gradually at no additional cost. Check Halaxy’s current pricing page for other features, as this can change.
Will these updates affect our Xero sync?
They are mostly within Halaxy itself. Fee notes and report changes may not flow into Xero, so keep key details in line item descriptions and test after any change.
Can we get these reports into Power BI?
Yes, with an integration that extracts the data on a schedule. We build these for clinics that want one dashboard across practitioners or locations.
