Plenty of Australian allied health practices run their clinical and billing work in Halaxy and their books in MYOB. It is a common combination, especially for clinics whose accountant has used MYOB for years. The catch is that Halaxy’s documented accounting syncs are with Xero, QuickBooks and Reckon One. MYOB is not on that list.
So how do MYOB practices get Halaxy data into their accounts without re-keying every invoice? Here are the realistic options, what each costs in time and money, and how to choose. We have been connecting Halaxy to Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks and Power BI for Australian clinics for more than five years.
Option 1: Manual export and import
Export invoices and payments from Halaxy reports, reshape them in a spreadsheet, and import them into MYOB, or enter summary journals by hand.
- Good for: solo practitioners with low volumes.
- Watch out for: errors when columns change, refunds and adjustments missed, and hours lost each month as the practice grows.
Option 2: Summary journals
Instead of syncing every invoice, post a daily or weekly summary journal into MYOB: revenue by service or funding type, payments received by method, and GST. Halaxy remains the detailed record of who was billed what.
- Good for: practices whose accountant mainly needs accurate totals.
- Watch out for: debtor tracking stays in Halaxy, so make sure everyone knows which system is the source of truth for unpaid invoices.
Option 3: A custom Halaxy to MYOB integration
An automated connection pulls invoices, payments, refunds and adjustments from Halaxy on a schedule and posts them to MYOB through MYOB’s API, with mapping for accounts, tax codes, practitioners and locations.
- Good for: multi-practitioner or multi-location clinics, and practices with NDIS, DVA or WorkCover work that needs careful mapping.
- Watch out for: it needs to be built properly, with logging and alerts, so failed syncs are noticed and fixed rather than silently missing.
Running Halaxy and MYOB?
We build Halaxy to MYOB connections that handle refunds, practitioner splits and funding types, with alerts when anything fails.
Option 4: Move the books to Xero
If your accountant is open to it, moving to Xero gets you Halaxy’s built-in sync. That is a bigger decision than it sounds: chart of accounts, payroll, history and reporting all move. For some practices it is the right call. For others, especially those with complex payroll or long MYOB history, an integration is less disruptive. Our guide to the Halaxy Xero integration explains what the native sync covers and where it stops, which is worth reading before you switch.
How to choose
| Your situation | Likely best fit |
|---|---|
| Solo, under about 100 invoices a month | Manual export or summary journals |
| Accountant wants totals, not detail | Summary journals, automated if possible |
| Several practitioners or locations | Custom integration |
| Already considering changing accounting software | Compare a move to Xero with an integration |
What a good integration handles
- Invoices, payments, refunds, credit notes and write-offs
- Correct GST treatment for GST-free health services and taxable items
- Tracking by practitioner, location and funding type
- Duplicate protection, so nothing posts twice
- A daily log and an alert when something fails
- Data held in accounts you own, not a third-party black box
Add reporting while you are at it
Once Halaxy data is flowing out reliably, it can also feed a Power BI dashboard with utilisation, revenue per clinician hour and billed vs received. See how to build a Halaxy dashboard owners actually use.
